چکیده
Abstract. Paleoclimatic records provide valuable information about Holocene climate, revealing aspects of climate variability for a multitude sites around the world. However, such data also possess limitations. Proxy networks are spatially uneven, seasonally biased, uncertain in time, and present variety challenges when used concert to illustrate complex variations past climate. assimilation provides one approach reconstructing that can account diverse nature proxy while maintaining physics-based covariance structures simulated by models. Here, we use paleoclimate create complete reconstruction temperature over 12 000 years using from Temperature 12k database output transient model simulations. Following last glacial period, shows temperatures warming peak near 6400 ago followed slow cooling toward day, supporting mid-Holocene which is at least as warm preindustrial. Sensitivity tests show if proxies have an overlooked summer bias, some apparent warmth could actually represent trends rather than annual mean trends. Regardless, potential effects seasonal biases insufficient align reconstructed global with seen

متن کاملReconstructing neural dynamics using data assimilation with multiple models
Assimilation of data with models of physical processes is a critical component of modern scientific analysis. In recent years, nonlinear versions of Kalman filtering have been developed, in addition to methods that estimate model parameters in parallel with the system state. We propose a substantial extension of these tools to deal with the specific case of unmodeled variables, when training da...
متن کاملReconstructing Mammalian Sleep Dynamics with Data Assimilation
Data assimilation is a valuable tool in the study of any complex system, where measurements are incomplete, uncertain, or both. It enables the user to take advantage of all available information including experimental measurements and short-term model forecasts of a system. Although data assimilation has been used to study other biological systems, the study of the sleep-wake regulatory network...
متن کاملReconstructing Minkowski Space-Time
Minkowski space is a physically important space-time for which the finding an adequate holographic description is an urgent problem. In this paper we develop further the proposal made in [1] for the description as a duality between Minkowski spacetime and a Conformal Field Theory defined on the boundary of the light-cone. We focus on the gravitational aspects of the duality. Specifically, we id...
متن کاملA Bayesian Algorithm for Reconstructing Climate Anomalies in Space and Time. Part I: Development and Applications to Paleoclimate Reconstruction Problems
Reconstructing the spatial pattern of a climate field through time from a dataset of overlapping instrumental and climate proxy time series is a nontrivial statistical problem. The need to transform the proxy observations into estimates of the climate field, and the fact that the observed time series are not uniformly distributed in space, further complicate the analysis. Current leading approa...
